Pamela Miles is the author of "Mile 0" a memoir about breaking the cycles of multi-generational domestic violence. She is an ordained pastor in the ELCA and holds a master's degree from Luther Seminary. She received her certification in Children, Youth, and Family Ministry and her BA from Trinity Lutheran College. Pam has worked and volunteered in the church setting for over 20 years. She was trained by Bill France, who helped form the Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center, on receiving disclosures and reporting child abuse. In 2010, Bill, Pam, and a lawyer from their congregation who worked for the WA State Attorney General's office, perfected a boundaries training and policy to be used in congregations. Pam has been teaching congregations how to protect their children from abuse, neglect, and predators through the implementation of the Safe Haven Boundaries policy for 15 years. When Pam is not advocating for children, she can be found doing her arts or enjoying the outdoors.

From a very young age, Pam was often found creating things with her hands; from crocheting and knitting, to drawing. Today, Pam's common mediums are: quilting, pysanky (Ukrainian Eggs), drawing, painting, and mixed media. She has taught hundreds of students the art of pysanky and in 2007, became one of five in the world certified as a Master of Pysanky by the IEAG (International Egg Art Guild). In 2008, Pam was invited to present an egg to First Lady Laura Bush.
Pam's quilts have received numerous awards at the state fair and have been used for auction in multiple fundraisers for her community.

When Pam spoke, the room went silent. People hung on her every word. Her story is one of healing, hope and resurrection. And everyone in the room that day found themselves in the midst of her story. They were able to find their own brokenness. Her healing, hope and resurrection became theirs. In a gentle way, she taught us how to live with courage and faith. I am grateful.
"You (Pastor Pam) walk thru life so quietly, yet your soft spoken ways have a tsunami of impact – the waves of love you leave behind are felt. You showed us generosity, thoughtfulness and heartfelt care – we thank you!"
A hard and all too common story of domestic abuse and the cycles that reverberate through an era of life, and how one abuse sets you up for another. I appreciated the lengthy resource list at the end for help for just about anyone. The author sheds light on forgiveness and reconciliation which was was thought-provoking. A well-spoken book. I hope the author writes another.
An uncommonly well written story that is all too common. The author describes her journey through tragic and abusive family situations that appear to be unending. However, there is an end, and that is what I need to remember. Whether someone is in the abusive situation or is just witnessing it, there is a way out. I was inspired by the author and her quest to protect her children. I was also inspired by those around her who helped her escape to a new life. The author provides spiritual optimism for anyone in this situation. "For too many years I felt unwanted, but I know God wants me, always". I recommend this book!
Courageous, passionate, and authentic are just some of the words that come to mind when I think of Pam Miles. She is one of my favorite pastoral role models. In reading her book a couple years ago, I was moved to tears and inspired that if she could reach into her soul to find the strength to persevere, then surely I can do the same in my life. As she shared her journey with the crowd of 500, they were focused on every word. Not only was her delivery powerful, but she left us all feeling that we were in a sacred space reminding us of the great power of grace and healing. Pam has a very calming and confident presence onstage and always makes herself readily available after her presentation to all who want talk with her.
Youth serving organizations who are serious about creating an environment where children flourish protected from physical abuse and child sexual assault would greatly benefit from a Safe Haven presentation from Pastor Pamela Miles. Safe Haven goes far beyond general information – it is where policy meets practice to protect children. Pastor Miles’ practical experience and professionalism make the presentations extremely informational, but what sets them apart is that you will leave with ready-made policies, procedures, and tools that can be immediately incorporated into your programs. I have seen Ms. Miles present many times to police officers, social workers, school staff, church leaders, parents, and caregivers - her expertise and easy nature make her presentations engaging for all who attend. If you want to protect the children in your organization (and protect your organization itself) from those who seek to hurt children, I highly recommend consulting with Pastor Pamela Miles.
